About me (well... us)
Welcome! You have found the website of David Wicks. Elizabeth (my wife) and I are missionaries (it still seems strange to use that term, it brings up images of people flying small airplanes around the jungle having spears thrown at them!) in the Philippines. Liz has been serving for just over 3 and a half years and I have been here for just over two years. We serve in Davao City that is located on the island of Mindanao in the southern part of the Philippines.
We serve with a group called Hope for the Nations (HFTN). Hope for the Nations is an international organization based in British Columbia, Canada. Their mission statement is “Today's Orphans, Tomorrow's Leaders.” We serve with the local branch here in Davao called HFTN Philippines. That website is in need of an update so not all of the information is current. Our primary focus is in serving with one of the ministries run by HFTN Philippines called Tabitha: Food for Life.
Basically, Tabitha: Food for Life (TFFL) is a feeding program for hungry kids in the district of Agdao, Davao City. Agdao is one of the poorest areas in Davao and is primarily a squatter area. The families lack Our passion or the heart beat of TFFL is Children Today, Leaders Tomorrow. We offer nutrition, tutoring, training in hygiene, mentoring and primary medical care and we long to see the kids we work with come to know the love of Christ. The vision of our program is just to love on the kids! Please have a look at my newsletter page for more information and pictures. There is also lots of video to enjoy, which you can find in the vlog (video blog) section.
My main responsibility is to serve as the TFFL administrator and Liz functions as the coordinator of the primary health care for TFFL. If you have any questions or would like to know how you can get involved, please send me an email.
As you may have noticed the activity on my blog has slowed down to a crawl (well more like no activity at all). I guess that's because I have been
focusing a lot of my energy on the newsletters and the video blog.
While the blog has been a lot of fun, I think it is time to say good-bye to it. This website allows me a lot more freedom and it
is a lot more fun than the blog. So I will leave the blog online for posterity sake, but I will not be updating it anymore. As far as I know,
Google will leave it up there for a long time, so there is no need to worry about losing the information found there.
